From Ottoman Turkish اورپرمك‎ (ürpermek, “for one's hair to stand on end”)[1], from Proto-Turkic *ürper- (“for one's hair to stand on end”), from Proto-Turkic *ürüp (“raised, fluffy”) with the suffix -ar[2].
