From Κῐ́λῐξ (Kílix) + -ῐ́ᾱ (-íā). Compare Akkadian 𒆳𒄭𒋃𒆪 (Ḫilakku, Ḫilikku). Also Hittite 𒂍𒄭𒆷 (Éhi-la-) (courtyard, referring to the Cilician Plain ringed by mountains) and Hittite 𒂍𒄭𒆷𒄠𒈥 (Éhi-la-am-mar) (gate, referring to the Cilician Gates).
