Etymology

From Medieval Byzantine Greek ἀκριτικός (akritikós) from ἀκρίτης (akrítēs, “frontier soldier”) from Ancient Greek ἄκρα f (ákra, “edge”) + -ίτης (-ítēs). Not to be confused with άκριτος (ákritos, “thoughtless”) and its root from κρίνω (kríno, “I judge”).
