δέμνιον

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Maybe from Proto-Indo-European *dem-, the same root of δέμω (démō, “to build”) and δόμος (dómos, “house, dwelling”). The word has also been connected to κρήδεμνον (krḗdemnon, “headband”), suggesting a derivation from the same root of δέω (déō, “to bind”).
