Cognates include English harns, Old Norse hjarni, Latin cerebrum (all three meaning 'brain') and Avestan 𐬯𐬁𐬭𐬀‎ (sāra), Persian سر‎ (sar) and Sanskrit शिरस् (śiras) (all three meaning 'head').
