From Proto-Indo-European *telh₂- (“to bear, endure”), the same root of ἔτλην (étlēn, “to suffer, undergo”), τελαμών (telamṓn, “broad strap or band”) and τάλαντον (tálanton, “measuring scale, talent”) + -μων (-mōn).
