From *köläkä (“shadow, shade”), from Proto-Turkic *köl- (“shadow, shade”).

Compare with Old Uyghur [script needed] (kölägä, “shadow”); Kyrgyz көлөкө (kölökö), Tuvan хөлеге (hölägä, “shadow, shade”).

Note also that a number of alternative archetypes manifest in Turkic languages: *kölän(t)kä, *köläntki, *kölkä, *köläk (“shadow, shade”), etc.
