From Common Kypchak *ičäk (“intestine, gut”), from an earlier form *ičägü (“instestine, gut”), from Proto-Turkic *ič (“interior; bowels, stomach”).
Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (ičägü, “viscera, bowels”); Tatar эчәк (eçäq), Bashkir эсәк (esäk), Kyrgyz ичек (içek); Uzbek ichak, Uyghur ئۈچەي (üchey), Southern Altai ичеге (ičege), Turkmen içege, Khakas ічеге (íçege, “intestine”), etc.
