Etymology
From *qoñ(ğu)rağu (“bell”) (compare Karakhanid [script needed] (qoñrağu, “bell”), the action noun from the verb *qoñ(ğu)ra- "to ring a bell", from Proto-Turkic *koñra- (“to ring, toll”). Cognate with Bashkir ҡыңғырау (qïñğïraw), Kyrgyz коңгуроо (koñguroo), Uzbek qo'ng'iroq, Uyghur قوڭغۇراق (qongghuraq), Khakas хонъро (xonʺro), Southern Altai коҥыра (koŋïra), etc.
