From Proto-Turkic *kudug (water well), from Proto-Turkic *kud- (to pour). Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (quduğ, water well); Bashkir ҡоҙоҡ (qoðoq), Kyrgyz кудук (kuduk), Uzbek quduq, Uyghur قۇدۇق (quduq), Shor қудуғ, Tuvan кудук (kuduk), Yakut кудук (kuduk), etc.
