Old Armenian

Etymology

Originally borrowed in the fourth century from the Greek form of Classical Syriac ܐܒܐ‎ (ʾăḇāʾ), whence also Աբա (Aba). Later revived in the ninth century, but this time, according to Ačaṙyan, borrowed from Arabic عَبَّاس‎ (ʕabbās). Rarely used since the 13th century.
