բդեդ

Old Armenian

Etymology

J̌ahukyan prefers the meaning “package, parcel” and explains the word as a dialectal form of փաթեթ (pʿatʿetʿ) or its misspelling due to a dialectal pronunciation. For old dialectal variations he adduces the following examples from the Hellenizing School: ներբող (nerboł) instead of *ներփող (*nerpʿoł), ապաթարց (apatʿarcʿ) instead of *ապադարձ (*apadarj), the parallel forms ենթ- (entʿ-) vs ընդ (ənd), բաղ- (bał-) vs փաղ (pʿał). Later he added փլանիմ (pʿlanim) vs բլ- (bl-).
