Etymology

From Middle Armenian թուռշի (tʿuṙši), թուրշի (tʿurši), from Classical Persian ترشی (turšī). In some dialects, via Ottoman Turkish ترشی (türşî).[1] Related to Middle Armenian թուրուշ (tʿuruš, bitter, resentful), թուրշա (tʿurša, a kind of plant).
