Etymology
Compare Northern Kurdish jajî, jajik (“a kind of cheese”),[1] ژاژ (jaj, “name of a herb used to flavour cheese”), and Persian ژاژ (žâž, “thyme”). For the interchangeability of plant-names with ‘cheese’ or ‘milk’, compare Armenian պանիր (panir, “cheese”) and dialectal պանրխոտ (panrxot, “thyme”), or կաթնախոտ (katʿnaxot, literally “milk-grass”), կաթնածաղիկ (katʿnacałik, literally “milk-flower”).[2] Possibly related to Ottoman Turkish جاجیگ (cacıg).
