հայթեմ

Old Armenian

Etymology

The origin is uncertain. According to Martirosyan, who develops J̌ahukyan's etymology, perhaps a denominative verb based on an otherwise unattested noun *հայթ (*haytʿ) inherited from a derivative of the root *sh₂ey- (to bind). See also հիանամ (hianam).
