Etymology
Not having a [h] sound, Russian often substitutes it with a г (g) in borrowings, as in Гейдельберг (Gejdelʹberg), гандбол (gandbol), гипер- (giper-), гобой (goboj). When borrowing these terms from Russian, Armenian restores the etymological h. Sometimes a h is wrongly restored when the foreign form underlying the Russian term had a g, as in հեպարդ (hepard), Հենդալֆ (Hendalf), Հադես (Hades), Պրահա (Praha).
