Borrowed into West Semitic from Akkadian 𒀀𒂵𒈬𒌝 (agammum), from Sumerian 𒀀𒂵𒄠 (agam). Compare Classical Syriac ܐܓܡܐ‎ (ʾaḡmā, “marsh, swamp”) and Arabic أَجَمَة‎ (ʔajama, “jungle, brushwood”).
