אָסַף • (asáf) (pa'al construction, passive counterpart נֶאֱסַף‎)

  1. (transitive) To gather, to collect: to bring a group of things together.
    ‏הילדים אספו את כל המשחקים והחזירו אותם לתוך התיבה.‎‎
    hay'ladím as'fú ét kól-hamiskhakím v'hekhzíru otám l'tókh hateivá.
    The children gathered all the games and put them back in the box.
  2. (transitive) To take, to gather to oneself.
    ‏הוא אסף אותה בזרועותיו.‎‎
    hú asáf otá biz'ro'otáv.
    He took her in his arms.
  3. (transitive) To pick up, to collect: to meet someone, and drive or lead them away.
    ‏באיזו שעה אתם אוספים אותו?‎‎
    b'éizo sha'á atém os'fím otó?
    At what time are you supposed to pick him up?
  4. (transitive) To collect, to accumulate a collection of.
    ‏נערים רבים נהנים לאסוף בולי דואר.‎‎
    n'arím rabím nehením le'esóf buléi-dó'ar.
    Many young people enjoy collecting postage stamps.
