اِصْطَبَرَ (iṣṭabara) VIII, non-past يَصْطَبِرُ‎ (yaṣṭabiru)

  1. to be patient, to have patience
  2. to persevere, to endure
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 19:65:
      رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَاعْبُدْهُ وَاصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَادَتِهِ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيًّا
      rabbu s-samāwāti wa-l-ʾarḍi wa-mā baynahumā fa-ʿbudhu wa-ṣṭabir li-ʿibādatihi hal taʿlamu lahu samiyyan
      Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and whatever is between them — so worship Him and have patience for His worship. Do you know of any similarity to Him?
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 20:132:
      وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَاصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا
      wa-ʾmur ʾahlaka bi-ṣ-ṣalāti wa-ṣṭabir ʿalayhā
      And enjoin prayer upon your family and be steadfast therein.
