Inherited from Proto-Turkic *(y)igne (“needle”); cognate with Azerbaijani iynə, Bashkir энә (enä), Chuvash йӗп (jĕp), Crimean Tatar iyne, Kazakh ине (ine), Kyrgyz ийне (iyne), Turkmen iňňe, Uyghur يىڭنە (yingne) and Uzbek igna.
