Borrowed from French bronze, itself from Italian bronzo. See there for further information, but perhaps ultimately a twice-borrowed term from Persian برنج‎ (berenj, “brass”) or Persian پرنگ‎ (pereng, “copper”). Nowadays more common than older مفرغ‎ (mefrağ), from Arabic.
