From Classical Syriac ܬܫܪܝܢ (tešrīn, “autumn month”), ultimately from Akkadian 𒌚𒇯 (tišritum), and cognate with Hebrew תִּשְׁרֵי (tišrei, “Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew lunisolar calendar”).
