From Middle Persian dwhtn' (dōxtan, “to sew”). Cognate with Baluchi دوچگ‎ (dócag), Gilaki دوتن‎ (dutən) (present stem دوج‎ (duj)), and Mazanderani بدوتن‎ (baduten).

From Middle Persian dwhtn' (dōxtan, “to milk”), from Old Persian *dáuxšatiy, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *dáwxšati (“to milk”). Whence also دوشیدن‎ (dušidan). Cognate with Baluchi دوشگ‎ (dóšag), Northern Kurdish doşîn.
