From Aramaic שִׁיבְתָא‎ (šiḇəṯā), ܫܒܷܬܴ݁ܐ‎ (šəḇettā), from Akkadian 𒅆𒂍𒌈 (/šibittu/). Cognate to Hebrew שֶׁבֶת‎ (šéḇeṯ) and Persian شوید‎ (ševid).
