From Aramaic שֽׁיפּוּרָא‎ / שֽׁפּוּרָא‎ (šippūrā) / ܫܝܺܦܘܿܪܳܐ‎ (šippōrā, “trumpet, shofar”). Cognate to Hebrew שׁוֹפָּר‎ (šōp̄ārā, “trumpet, shofar”) whence probably Jewish Palestinian Aramaic, Jewish Literary Aramaic שׁוֹפָרָא‎ (šōp̄ārā, “trumpet, shofar”).
