From Classical Arabic صَيْدُون‎ (ṣaydūn), from Classical Syriac ܨܰܝܕ݁ܳܢ‎ (ṣaydon) from Phoenician 𐤑𐤉𐤃𐤅𐤍‎ (ṣydwn /ṣīdūn/). Cognate with Aramaic ܨܝܕܘܢ‎ (ṣīdōn), Hebrew צִידוֹן‎ (ṣīḏōn), Ancient Greek Σιδών (Sidṓn), Latin Sīdōn.
