From Proto-Turkic *taŋ (“dawn; morning”); cognate with Azerbaijani dan, Kazakh таң (tañ), Kyrgyz тан (tan), Tatar таң (tañ), Turkmen daň, Tuvan даң (dañ), Uyghur تاڭ‎ (tang), Uzbek tong and Yakut тыҥ (tıñ).
