Persian

Etymology

Pseudo-Arabic formation from عکس ('aks, photo), from Arabic عَكْس (ʕaks, reflection, opposite), derived with the Arabic measure فَعّال (faʕʕāl), which creates words for habitual actions and professions. The underlying noun and the derivation type are Arabic, but both the sense “photo” and the derivation itself are restricted to Persian. Compare کفاش (kaffâš, cobbler).
