Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kaŋčïk (bitch; female); cognate with Azerbaijani qancıq, Bashkir ҡансыҡ (qansıq), Kazakh қаншық (qanşyq), Kyrgyz канчык (kançık), Southern Altai канчык (kančïk) and Turkmen ganjyk.
