Borrowed from Persian قیمه‎ (qime, “ground meat, mincemeat”), likely ultimately from Turkic. Compare Ottoman Turkish قیمه‎ (kıyma) (whence modern Turkish kıyma (“minced meat”)), Punjabi ਕ਼ੀਮਾ (qīmā) / قِیمہ‎ (qīmh), Gujarati ખીમો (khīmo), Marathi खिमा (khimā), Bengali কিমা (kima).
