Derived from the passive participle of اِحْتَمَلَ‎ (iḥtamala, “to imply that something is possible”) (in the passive يُحْتَمَلُ‎ (yuḥtamalu, “it is possible”)), from the root ح م ل‎ (ḥ-m-l).
