Etymology

Borrowed into Old Anatolian Turkish from Persian پلاو‎ (pelâv, palâv), from Sanskrit पुलाक (pulāka), which is probably of Dravidian origin[1][2][3]. Akin to Tamil புறுக்கல் (puṟukkal, “cooked rice”).
