کمرا

See also: گمرا‎

Persian

Etymology

Reborrowed from Aramaic קמרא‎ (qamrā) / Classical Syriac ܩܡܪܐ‎ (qamrā, “girdle”) – in spite of the sense "vault" not being attested in Aramaic, and notwithstanding the sound correspondence /q/ → /k/, which is like in کما‎ (komâ, kamâ) –, itself from Middle Persian 𐭪𐭬𐭫𐭩‎ (kmly /kamar/, “girdle”)[[Category:|کمرا]], 𐫞𐫖𐫡‎‎ (qmr‎ /kamar/, “vault”), the progenitor of کمر‎ (kamar, “belt, arch”).

Noun

کمرا • (kamrâ)

  1. vault
  2. the string worn by the followers of Zoroaster
    Synonym: زنار‎ (zonnâr)
