From Sanskrit अंग (aṃga) + रक्षक (rakṣaka) or राखणे (rākhṇe). Compare with Gujarati અંગરખો (aṅgarkho), Oriya ଅଙ୍ଗରଖା (ôṅgôrôkha), Bengali আংরাখা (aṁrakha).
