Etymology
Sanskritization of Prakrit 𑀔𑁂𑀮𑁆- (khĕl-) (compare क्ष्वेल् (kṣvel, “to leap, jump, play”)), which is of unclear or possible substrate origin. Compare क्रीड् (krīḍ) and क्रीळति (krīḷati, “to play”).
