Etymology

Two different theories have been proposed:

  1. Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit [Term?], from Sanskrit गर्भरूप (garbharūpa, a young person). Cognate with Assamese গাভৰু (gabhoru) and Bengali গাভুর (gabhur).[1][2][3]
  2. An adaptation of Persian خوبرو (xubru, fair-faced) as suggested only by Dasa.[4]
