Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘰𑘄𑘭 (pāusa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑀸𑀉𑀲 (pāusa), from Sanskrit प्रावृष (prāvṛṣa). Cognate with Konkani पाव्स (pāvs).
