Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘦𑘱𑘭𑘲 (misī), from Sanskrit श्मश्रु (śmáśru), from Proto-Indo-European *smoḱru- (“beard”). Compare Konkani मिशे (miśe), Kannada ಮೀಸೆ (mīse).
