From Proto-Indo-Aryan *yáHti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *yáHti, from Proto-Indo-European *yéh₂-ti, from *yeh₂- (“to ride, travel”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬫𐬁𐬌𐬙𐬌 (yāiti).
