Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘨𑘰𑘽𑘠𑘜𑘹 (rāṃdhaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀭𑀁𑀥𑁂𑀇 (raṃdhei), 𑀭𑀁𑀥𑀇 (raṃdhaï), from Sanskrit रन्धयति (randháyati, to cook), from Proto-Indo-European *lendʰ- (to cook food). Cognate with Konkani रांद्चे (rāndce), Gujarati રાંધવું (rā̃dhvũ), Hindi राँधना (rāndhnā), Oriya ରାନ୍ଧିବା (randhiba), Assamese ৰন্ধা (rondha).
