Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *lewǵ- (to break off, shatter). Cognate with Ancient Greek λῠγρός (lugrós, mournful), Latin lugeō whence English lugubrious; Old English lūcan (to pluck out, pull up), whence English louk.
