1. greedy, covetous, hankering after
   • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 10.59.40:

     स्थापितः सत्यभामाया गृहोद्यानोपशोभनः। अन्वगुर्भ्रमराः स्वर्गात् तद्गन्धासवलम्पटाः॥

     sthāpitaḥ satyabhāmāyā gṛhodyānopaśobhanaḥ. anvagurbhramarāḥ svargāt tadgandhāsavalampaṭāḥ.

     Once planted, [the pārijāta tree] beautified the garden of Queen Satyabhāmā’s palace. Bees followed the tree all the way from heaven, greedy for its fragrance and sweet sap.

   • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 12.3.21:

     तदा क्रियातपोनिष्ठा नातिहिंस्रा न लम्पटाः। त्रैवर्गिकास्त्रयीवृद्धा वर्णा ब्रह्मोत्तरा नृप॥

     tadā kriyātaponiṣṭhā nātihiṃsrā na lampaṭāḥ. traivargikāstrayīvṛddhā varṇā brahmottarā nṛpa.

     Back then [in the Tretā age] people were devoted to ritual performances and severe austerities. They were not excessively violent or greedy. Their interest was primarily in religiosity, economic development and regulated sense gratification, and they achieved prosperity by following the prescriptions of the three Vedas. Although in that age, society had evolved into four separate classes, O King, most people were Brāhmaṇas.

     रूपपेशलमाधुर्यसौगन्ध्यप्रियदर्शनः। स्त्रीणां प्रियतमो नित्यं मत्तः स्वपुरलम्पटः॥

     rūpapeśalamādhuryasaugandhyapriyadarśanaḥ. strīṇāṃ priyatamo nityaṃ mattaḥ svapuralampaṭaḥ.

     I had a beautiful face and a pleasing, attractive bodily structure. Decorated with flower garlands and sandalwood pulp, I was most pleasing to the women of my city. Thus I was bewildered, always feeling lustful.

     इत्थं व्यवसितो बुद्ध्या भक्तोऽतीव जनार्दने। विषयान् जायया त्यक्ष्यन्बुभुजे नातिलम्पटः॥

     itthaṃ vyavasito buddhyā bhaktoʼtīva janārdane. viṣayān jāyayā tyakṣyanbubhuje nātilampaṭaḥ.

     [Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued:] Thus firmly fixing his determination by means of his spiritual intelligence, Sudāmā remained absolutely devoted to Lord Kṛṣṇa, the shelter of all living beings. Having not much from avarice and lust [lit. not being much lustful], he enjoyed, together with his wife, the sensual pleasures that had been bestowed upon him, always with the idea of eventually renouncing all sense gratification.

   • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 7.15.40:

     आत्मानं चेद्विजानीयात्परं ज्ञानधुताशयः। किमिच्छन्कस्य वा हेतोर्देहं पुष्णाति लम्पटः॥

     ātmānaṃ cedvijānīyātparaṃ jñānadhutāśayaḥ. kimicchankasya vā hetordehaṃ puṣṇāti lampaṭaḥ.

     The human form of body is meant for understanding the self and the Supreme, both of whom are transcendentally situated. If both of them can be understood when one is purified by advanced knowledge, for what reason and for whom does a foolish, lustful person maintain the body for sense gratification?

   • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 5.2.14:

     योऽसौ त्वया करसरोजहतः पतङ्गोदिक्षु भ्रमन् भ्रमत एजयतेऽक्षिणी मे। मुक्तं न ते स्मरसि वक्रजटावरूथंकष्टोऽनिलो हरति लम्पट एष नीवीम्॥

     yoʼsau tvayā karasarojahataḥ pataṅgodikṣu bhraman bhramata ejayateʼkṣiṇī me. muktaṃ na te smarasi vakrajaṭāvarūthaṃkaṣṭoʼnilo harati lampaṭa eṣa nīvīm.

     My mind is already restless, and by playing with a ball, moving it all about with your lotuslike palm, you are also agitating my eyes. Your curling black hair is now scattered, but you are not attentive to arranging it. Are you not going to arrange it? The most cunning and lusty wind is trying to take off your lower garment. Are you not mindful of it?
