- Once planted, [the pārijāta tree] beautified the garden of Queen Satyabhāmā’s palace. Bees followed the tree all the way from heaven, greedy for its fragrance and sweet sap.

Having not much from avarice and lust [lit. not being much lustful], he enjoyed, together with his wife, the sensual pleasures that had been bestowed upon him, always with the idea of eventually renouncing all sense gratification.

- My mind is already restless, and by playing with a ball, moving it all about with your lotuslike palm, you are also agitating my eyes. Your curling black hair is now scattered, but you are not attentive to arranging it. Are you not going to arrange it? The most cunning and lusty wind is trying to take off your lower garment.
