Origin disputed. One theory, a legend, claims to be inherited from Sanskrit लव (lava, Lava) + पुर (pura, fortress; city), literally city of Lava (compare New Sanskrit लवपुर (lavapura)).[1][2][3] Compare Punjabi لَہَوْر (lahaur) / ਲਹੌਰ (lahaur), Gujarati લાહોર (lāhor), Marathi लाहोर (lāhor), Bengali লাহোর (lahōr).
