Etymology
Inherited from Sanskrit शूयते (śūyate) (compare Old Marathi 𑘭𑘳𑘕𑘲 (sujī, “swelling”)). Related to सुज (suj). Compare Gujarati સૂજવું (sūjvũ), સોજો (sojo), Hindustani سُوجْنَا / सूजना (sūjnā), Sindhi سُڄَڻُ / सुॼणु, سوڄِ / सोॼि, Punjabi ਸੁੱਜਣਾ (sujjaṇā) / سُجّݨا (sujjṇā), ਸੋਜ (soj) / سوج (soj), Sinhalese ඉදෙනවා (idenawā), Kholosi sojo.
