From აღ- (aɣ-) + ცრ- (cr-), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *car- ~ *cr-.

აღცრაჲ (aɣcray)

  1. to sift
    • 5th century and later, Bible, Luke 22.31:
      ეშმაკმან გამოგითხოვნა თქუენ აღცრად, ვითარცა იფქლი
      ešmaḳman gamogitxovna tkuen aɣcrad, vitarca ipkli
      Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat
  2. to scatter, disperse
    • 10th century, ṗarxlis mravaltavi 774.22-24a:
      ესენი ოდესმე გრძნებდეს და აღიცრეს თითითა ღმრთისაჲთა
      eseni odesme grʒnebdes da aɣicres titita ɣmrtisayta
      They once performed magic and were scattered by the finger of God.

Usage notes

In Luke, corresponds to Old Armenian խարբալեմ (xarbalem) and Ancient Greek σινιάζω (siniázō).
