Etymology
    
Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek Βάρδυλις (Bárdulis), Βάρδυλλις (Bárdullis), the name of an Illyrian king. Less likely a direct continuation thereof. The reinterprerpretation as bardhë + yll, literally “white star”, is most likely just a folk etymology.[1] Ultimately sharing its components with other given names such as Bardh and Yllbardhë.
