Etymology

Rebracketing of Gamle-Erik with difinite singular form. Dialectal vowel change from gamal (“old”) to gåmmål.

The sound r in Trøndelag dialect is changing into sj before s, k, t or p. Due to this change, the sound combination rk can be understood and writed as sjk or rsk, and vice versa (f.ex. oberst can be mispronouced as obert in case of self-correction of the speaker who tries to avoid dialect in his/hers speech). Compare to kark and kjersk. [1]
