    Etymology
    
First attested as Helde Wiers Kamp in 1845. The neighbourhood was named after Princess Maria Christina of Orange-Nassau (b. 1947). Before then, it was named after Jacob Heldewier (d. 1692), a councilman of Heerlen who owned land near the current neighbourhood.
