Etymology

From Proto-Iranian *wazdHā́h (“persistence, endurance”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wazdʰHā́s, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *wn̥-s-dʰh₁-éh₂, from *wen-s- (“to conquer, win”) +‎ *dʰeh₁- (“to do, place”) +‎ -éh₂ (deverbal noun suffix).[1]
