From Proto-Indo-European *h₂eǵro-, from *h₂eǵ- (“to drive”); compare Ancient Greek ἄγρα (ágra, “hunt”), Avestan 𐬀𐬰𐬭𐬋𐬛𐬀𐬌𐬜𐬍 (azrōdaiδī, “hunt”).
